Help & Support

Everyone’s experience of their baby’s loss is different; your baby may have died during pregnancy or labour, or soon after birth.  You may have had to take the heartbreaking decision to end the pregnancy for medical reasons.

We all cope in different ways. However, there is support literature which may help on your journey through this grief.  On the National Sands website you will find copies of all available support to view online.

Many parents have found comfort from reading these books:

  • Empty Cradle, Broken Heart : Surviving the Death of Your Baby by Deborah L. Davis.
  • When A Baby Dies: The Experience of Late Miscarriage, Stillbirth and Neonatal Death by Alix Henley and Nancy Kohner.

Other support books, including picture books for siblings, are available to borrow at group meetings when they are running and you can browse at the National Sands shop https://shop-sands.org.uk/

We also offer support to other family members such as grandparents and siblings, along with friends, colleagues and health professionals.  Support can be sought at any stage of the grief process, including long ago bereaved,  and can be especially helpful during subsequent pregnancies.
