What is a befriender?
A befriender is a volunteer who has been personally affected by the loss of a baby and has received specialist training to offer confidential support to others. When you contact our helpline, you will be asked to leave a message and a befriender will ring you back. Befrienders can also be contacted via email. Our befrienders include mothers, fathers and grandparents.
Our group support meetings are led by Sands befrienders. You are welcome to join us from 7pm for refreshments and to have a look at the basket of support books that we have available to borrow.
With the meeting starting at 7.30pm, befrienders will share their stories and experiences and you will be invited to share your story if you wish, or you may just want to come and listen to others to begin with. Attending your first meeting can be emotional, so please don’t feel pressured to let us know you are planning to come; you are welcome to just turn up.
********* NEW GROUP MEETING VENUE ************
Due to unforeseen circumstances we have not able to use the community room at Tesco and have been in the training room for our recent meetings instead. However, we feel this venue is not suitable and so- as from June our meetings will be at a different venue – St Edburg’s C of E Primary School, Pioneer Way, Bicester . (PLEASE NOTE – the postcode for the school is incorrect! Please don’t use it!)
Any questions – please get in touch with us on our befriender phone number 07513 295504.
